Belisle Named Wingers Boys Hockey Coach:
Mike Belisle is the new Red Wing Wingers boys high school hockey coach. Activities and Athletics Director Matt Schultz and Red Wing Public Schools Superintendent Stan Slessor conducted interviews for the position. Belisle interviewed for the job Thursday and accepted the offer from Matt Schultz Friday morning.
Belisle was the Wingers JV hockey coach the past four seasons and also coached the bantam team this past season. Belisle is a South St. Paul high school graduate and was on the Packers 1986 state tournament team. Mike and his wife Diane have two sons, Fritz and Cecil, who play youth hockey in the Red Wing Amateur Hockey Association.
Belisle becomes just the third head coach in the 36 year history of the Wingers boys high school hockey program. Jim Pohl, the "Godfather" of Wingers hockey, coached the team from 1974-1992. George Nemanich has been the Wingers coach ever since.
Nemanich stepped down in April after 18 years as the head coach and three years prior to that as the top assistant to Jim Pohl. Nemanich coached the Wingers to 331 wins, six state tournament appearances, one state title and two state runnerup finishes. Nemanich's teams won nearly 70% of their games.
The Wingers coaching staff last year included top assistant Bob Rajanen along with Chad Bray. Belisle will now assemble his staff and chances are Rajanen and Bray will help out again.
Amateur Baseball:
The Red Wing Aces host the Eau Claire Cavaliers tonight at 7:30pm at the Athletic Field. It's "Back To The 70's Night" with prizes for fans in 70's costumes, vintage 70's music, the Aces in 70's uniforms and players sporting 70's style haircuts and facial hair.
It's also alumni night with all former Aces and Scarlets players invited to the alumni game starting at 5:30pm. The Aces will also honor their 1990 state championship team which sported a 46-5 record.
The Aces host Dundas Saturday at 2pm and travel to Miesville Sunday at 2pm for the big July 4th game. Both games this weekend start at 1:45pm with the pre-game show on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on the web at www.1250kcue.com with "Action" Jack Colwell.

All-Star game moved!
The CCVL vs. CVL All-Star game will be played on Wednesday, July 7th but not in Hastings. The game has been shifted to Elko that night with a home run derby at 7pm and the game at 8pm.
A dispute over the game's location the last few days had put the game in jeopardy. The game was played in Red Wing last year.
Aces on the CCVL roster this year include starting shortstop Kyle Blahnik, reserve catcher Jimmy Bohmbach and reserve outfielders Brett Gadient and Andy Schilling.
Oeltgen A Bronco!
Former Red Wing Wingers basketball player Isaac Oeltgen is heading west to start his college basketball career.
Oeltgen has signed to play with the Boise State Broncos of the WAC (Western Athletic Conference). Oeltgen graduated from Red Wing High School in 2009. Oeltgen showed flashes of his potential with the Wingers in his two years with the varsity but injuries hampered his progress.
Oeltgen is 7'1" and now weighs about 230 pounds, about 50 pounds more than when he played in high school. He did not play basketball or attend college this past year while recovering from his knee injury.
Coach Leon Rice stated on the school's athletic website that "Isaac has a lot of basketball potential. He is a hard working kid that has been through some health problems, but he has corrected those now. With his character, work ethic and desire to be a player I think he is really going to develop."
The WAC is a 10 team conference that includes Boise State, Fresno State, San Jose State, Utah State, Utah, New Mexico State, Idaho, Nevada, Louisiana Tech and Hawaii.
Boise State was 15-17 last season.
