Goodhue 78 Zumbrota-Mazeppa 73- The Wildcats edged the Cougars in a great game in Goodhue.  Mikayla Miller had 25 points, Kali Ryan 18 and Mikayla Tipcke 16 for Goodhue.  Amber jentsch had 27 points and Ashley Hinsch 21 for ZM.

Goodhue is now 19-3 on the season.

Girls Hockey:

Red Wing 9 New Prague 4- The Wingers Reagan Haley had four goals to lead Red Wing to the win.  Paige haley had three goals and two assists.  Cori Fairbanks had two goals and Nicole Schammel added four assists.  Lisa Nibbe had 29 savesin the road win.

Red Wing is now 16-7-1 on the season and 10-2 in the Missota Conference. The Section 1A playoff pairings come out this weekend and the Wingers are expected to be the top seed and get a first round bye.

Boys Swimming & Diving:

Red Wing 95 Northfield 82- The Wingers won 10 of the 12 events to finish undefeated in regular season dual meets for a second straight season.

Sophomore Tanner Alms set a Northfield pool record with a time of 4:50.37 in the 500 freestyle.

Friday High School Sports Schedule:

Boys Hockey:

Red Wing (9-8-1) at Crookston (6-15-1) 7:10pm pre-game 7;30pm face off on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on line at www.1250kcue.com with "Action" Jack Colwell.

The Wingers northern excursion takes them to Crookston to face the Pirates at the new Crookston Sports Center.

Saturday the Wingers face the Thief River Falls Prowlers (15-3-2 ranked #4 in Class A) at Ralph Engelstad Arena at 1pm with the pre-game show at 12:40pm on on KCUE.

Girls Basketball:

Red Wing (14-5) at Farmington 7:30pm- The Wingers look to break a three game losing streak and are playing their first game since last Friday when they lost to Missota Conference leader Chanhassen.

Lake City (7-11) at Pine Island (20-1) 7:15pm on Lake Hits 95 with Mark O'Connor- It's certainly a tall order for the Tigers on the road. Pine Island's only loss was a 40-32 setback at Goodhue on January 20th.

Boys Hockey:

Red Wing 5 Chaska 4- The Wingers broke a two game losing streak with their win at Chaska.

Dayton Johnson scored just 26 seconds into the game to give the Wingers a 1-0 lead but the Hawks grabbed a 2-1 lead later in the period on goals by Brooks Wineberg and Brady Roers.

Taylor Hanson scored at 7:07 of the second period for the Wingers to make it 2-2. Dayton Johnson's second goal at 9:35 put the Wingers up 3-2 but Brady Roers scored two minutes later for the Hawks and it was 3-3 after two periods.

Marcus Dodge tallied on the power play at 2:19 of the third period to put the Wingers up 4-3 but Roers scored again for the Hawks 30 seconds later to make it a 4-4 game. The Wingers Mike Stegora netted the game winner at 5:01 of the period with taylor Hanson picking up an assist.

Jack Burkel had 30 saves for the Wingers while Thomas Hanson had 42 saves for Chaska.

Red Wing is 9-8-1 on the season and 6-3-1 in the Missota Conference.

The Wingers embark on their big northern Minnesota trip with a game Friday at Crookston at 7:30pm. Saturday the Wingers play at #5 Class A power Thief River Falls with both games on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE with "Action" Jack Colwell.

Girls Hockey:

Chaska/Chanhassen 8 Red Wing 4- The Stormhawks clinched the Missota Conference championship with their win over the Wingers Tuesday night at Prairie island Arena.

The Wingers Maddie Hardyman notched a power play goal at 8:37 of the first period to pen the scoring but Chaska/Chan evened the score on a power play goal by Jenna Wormuth with just nine seconds left in the first period.

The Stormhawks exploded for five second period goals including four goal in the first 6:51 of the period. Casey Lindquist scored two of the goals. Emily Stegora's power play goal with 1:43 left in the second period cut the Stormhawks lead to 6-2.

Kaitlin Storo scored 30 seconds into the third period to put the Stormhawks up 7-2. The Wingers Nicole Schammel scored two goals 61 seconds apart later in the period to cut the lead to 7-4 but Storo scored again with just over three minutes left to close out the scoring.

The penalty filled affair saw Chaska/Chan go 3-6 on the pwer play while the Wingers were 2-7.

Wingers goalie Lisa Nibbe had 51 saves while Laura Chalupsky had 29 saves for the Stormhawks

Red Wing is 15-7-1 on the year and 9-2 in the Missota Conference and play at New Prague Thursday night in the final conference game. Section 1A seedings come out this weekend and the Wingers are still expected to get the #1 seed and a first round bye.

Boys Basketball:

Holy Angels 74 Red Wing 61- The Wingers trailed by just one point at the half but the Stars went on a 10-0 run to start the second half to secure the home court win.

Jordan Dembley had 18 points, Danny Sullivan 14 and Parker Bredow 12 for the Stars. Jon Sevlie led the Wingers with 12 points. Joel Newman and Ryan Boldt added 11 points. The Wingers played without talented freshman Ty Buck, who suffered a foot injury in practice Monday.

The Wingers are 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the Missota Conference and will try to break their five game losing streak Friday with a home game against Farmington.

Goodhue 53 Lake City 43- The Wildcats gained revenge for their earlier loss at Lake City with a solid win Tuesday night in Goodhue.

The Wildcats Ryan Bigelow had 14 points, Michael Mc Namara had 13 and Tyson Dicke 10. Zach Hinrichs had 14 points for Lake City with Luke Bremer adding nine points.

Lake City is 10-8 and have lost four straight games. Goodhue is now 13-5 on the season.

Cannon Falls 59 Pine Island 27- Cedric Dicke had 22 points to lead the Bombers to the win.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa 71 Triton 58- Nathaniel Rauen had 25 points for the Cougars in their win.

Southland 55 Wabasha-Kellogg 32

Plainview-Elgin-Millville 57 Kingsland 54

Ellsworth 57 Amery 38

Elmwood 67 Plum City 56- Chase Luebker had 23 points for the Blue Devils in their loss and now has 980 career points.

Girls Basketball:

Goodhue 55 Lake City 50- Mikayla Miller poured in 30 points as Goodhue turned back the upset bid by Lake City on the Tigers court.

Alexa Blair had 17 points to lead Lake City.

Goodhue is 18-3 on the season. Lake City is 7-11.

Girls Hockey:

Chaska/Chanhassen (17-5-1, 10-0-1 Missota) at Red Wing (15-6-1, 9-1 Missota) 6:40pm pre-game 7pm face off on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on line at www.1250kcue.com with "Action" Jack Colwell.

The visiting Stormhawks can win the Missota by beating the Wingers at Prairie Island Arena. Red Wing can win the Missota with a win over the Stormhawks and a win at New Prague Thursday night.

The Stormhawks beat the Wingers in their first matchup 5-3 in Chaska back on January 3rd.

Boys Hockey:

Red Wing (8-8-1, 5-3-1 Missota) at Chaska (3-16, 0-8 Missota) 7pm- The Wingers look to end a two game losing streak with a win over the Hawks.

Red Wing beat Chaska 7-1 in Red Wing on January 3rd.

Gymnastcs:

Red Wing at New Prague 6:30pm

Red Wing (5-11, 1-4 Missota) at Holy Angels (8-7, 2-3 Missota) 7:30pm- The Wingers attempt to break their four game losing streak. Red Wing swept Holy Angels last season.

Lake City (10-7, 4-3 HVL Blue) at Goodhue (12-5, 4-3 HVL Blue) 7:15pm on lake Hits 95 with Mark O'Connor.

The Tigers edged the Wildcats 42-39 in Lake City and Goodhue looks to even the score on their home court. Expect another close game!

Boys Basketball:

Chanhassen 79 Red Wing 67- The Wingers played well on the road against the Missota Conference leaders but the Storm used their overall team depth and hot shooting to grab the win.

The Wingers trailed 32-20 with five minutes left in the first half but the Storm went on a 14-4 run to end the half and led 46-34.  Red Wing started the second half with a 7-0 run to close the gap to 46-41.  Chanhassen responded and opened up a 16 point lead but the Wingers cut the lead to 70-62 with 3 1/2 minutes left.  The Storm then turned the ball over but the Wingers couldn't capitalize and Chanhassen hit free thorws down the stretch to seal the win.

6'5" senior Kevin Jensen scored 16 points for the Storm and went over the 1000 point mark in his career.  Jensen now has 1002 career points.  Cole Otto had 15 points.  Brandon Arnold and Joey Stark had 10 pojts apiece.  The Storm shot 57% on the evning including 9 of 18 on three point shots.

Freshman Ty Buck hit six three point baskets and led Red Wing with 21 points.  Joel Newman added 16 and Isaac Toivonen 15.

Chanhassen is now 13-4 overall and 5-0 in the Missota.  Red Wing is 5-11 overall and 1-4 in the Missota.

Girls Basketball:

Chanhassen 56 Red Wing 47- The Storm used their depth to wear down the Wingers in the second half in their Missota Conference matchup at the Larry Sonju Gymnasium.

Th game was tied 24-24 at the half but the Storm picked up their defensive intensity in the second half as the Wingers struggked to make shots.  The Wingers also had three players foul out in the second half, Marisa Toivonen, Tesha Buck and Mc Kenna Schaffer.

Lauren Shifflett led Chanhassen with 17 points and Mikki Prince adde 14.  Tesha Buck had 17 points, Macy Kelly 13 and Marisa Toivonen added 12 points,11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Wingers have lost three straight games and are 14-5 overall and 4-3 in the missota while Chanhassen is 15-3 overall and 7-0 in the Missota.

Boys Hockey:

North St. Paul 3 Red Wing 1- The Wingers fell to the Polars at Prairie Island Arena and lost a player for two games as a result.

Jack Gorman scored at 2:42 of the first period for the Wingers for their only goal.  Tyler Oliver tied the game at 7:07 of the period for the Polars.  The teams skated through a scoreless second period but then the penalty bug doomed the Wingers in the third period.

The Wingers Anthony Kimmes was assessed a five minute major for checking from behind and a 10 minute misconduct penalty at  6:47 of the third period.  The Polars Danny Otis picked up a minor penalty 14 seconds later so the teams played 4 on 4 for two minutes.  After Otis' penalty expired Kimmes penalty still was in effect so the Polars went back on the pwer play and Mark Meister scored the game winner at 11:02 of the period.  Tyler Oliver added an insurance goal at 11:02.  Kimmes will miss then next two games because of the checking from behind major.

North St. Paul had 42-26 shots on goal advantage with Preston Blaney racking up 39 saves for Red wing.  The Wingers are 8-8-1 on the year and play at Chaska next Tuesday.

Boys Hockey:

Northfield 3 Red Wing 2- Penalties told the story of the Wingers loss at Northfield Thursday night.

Northfield was 2-6 on the power play while the Wingers never had a power play opportunity in the contest.

Adam Yetzer's power play goal at 10:29 of the first period gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Andrew Scofield's goal at 2:42 of the second period put the Raiders up 2-0. The Wingers quickly responded and tied the game with two goals 51 seconds apart. Marcus Dodge lit the lamp at 3:09 and Ryan Rehder converetde a nice pass from Alex Rezansoff to make it 2-2 at the 4:00 mark.

Red Wing's Anthony Kimmes took an elbowing penalty just 15 seconds into the third period and the Raiders potted the game winner on Adam Yetzer's power play tally ay 1:51 of the period.

The Wingers pressed for the game tying goal the rest of the way but couldn't get the equalizer against Northfield goalie Isaac Tjaden, who had 29 saves. Preston Blaney had 23 saves for Red Wing.

Northfield is 10-7-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in the Missota. Red Wing is 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Missota . Red Wing hosts North St. Paul at 7pm tonight at Prairie Island Arena.

Girls Hockey:

Red Wing 6 Northfield 3- The Wingers beat their Missota rivals with a three goal third period and kept their Missota Conference championship hopes alive.

The Wingers led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Nicole Schammel and Emily Segora. The Raiders rallied to tie the game 3-3 after a wild second period. Annie Pumper scored at 1:21 of the period and then tallied a shorthanded goal at 5:33 to make it 2-2. The Wingers Nicole Schammel scored at 6:27 of the period on the same power play to put the Wingers up 3-2 but Northfield got a power play chance and Sarah Behr's goal at 7:24 of the period made it 3-3.

The Wingers dominated the third period and 8th grader Maddy Hardyman's power play goal at 7:26 proved to be the game winner. Paige Haley added an insurance goal at 13:15 and added an empty net goal with 23 seconds left.

Red Wing outshot Northfield 20-6 in the third period and 52-28 for the game. Lisa Nibbe had 25 saves for the Wingers.

Red Wing is 15-5-1 on the season and 9-1 in the Missota Conference. The Wingers, ranked #8 in the State in Class A, play at #6 Blake Saturday at 3pm. The Wingers return home for a showdown with Chaska/Chanhassen next Tuesday at 7pm in a game that will decide the Missota Conference champion. Chaska/Chan is 9-0-1 in the Missota and beat Red Wing 5-3 at Chaska in their first meeting back on January 3rd.

Boys Basketball:

Boyceville 64 Plum City 59- Chase Luebker scored 22 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter but the Blue Devils comeback effort fell short Thursday night.

Girls Basketball:

Pepin-Alma 60 Eleva-Strum 53- Ali Murray's 24 points led the Eagles to the win. P-A is 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Dairyland Small Conference.

Boys Swimming & Diving:

Red Wing beat Shakopee Thursday night at the Twin Bluff Middle School Pool. The Wingers are 6-0 on the season and host their invite Saturday.
