Boys Basketball:  Wingers Season Over

Austin 67 Red Wing 61-Connor Gunderson scorched the nets for 34 points as the Packers rallied to edge the Wingers in the Section 1AAA quarterfinals at Packer Gym in Austin.

Gunderson, a 6'5" senior forward, scored 24 of his 34 points in the second half and hit four of his six three point baskets after the break.  The Packers made 10 three point baskets overall in the game.  The Wingers had three players in double figures as Mitch Earney scored 15 points, Isaac Sevlie 14 and Coleman Kelly 12.  Earney had three of the Wingers six three point baskets in the game.  The Wingers outrebounded Austin and had fewer turnovers but still saw their season come to an end with a 6-20 record.

Austin plays at New Prague Saturday at 7pm in the Section 1AAA semi-finals while 25-1 and #1 seed Winona hosts Simley in the other semi-final.

Girls Basketball:  Wildcats on the prowl for state

The Goodhue Wildcats (22-7) face the Rushford-Peterson Trojans (18-10) for the Section 1A championship at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center. The pre-game show is at 5:45pm with the tip off at 6pm on KWNG 106 with "Action" Jack Colwell and Andy Kimball.

"Action" Jack's outlook: Goodhue has won 20 of their last 21 games while Rushford-Peterson has won 9 straight games.  Goodhue's has an edge in scoring balance and height while R-P has an edge in quickness.  I like Coach Coach Josh Wieme's Wildcats to win a hard fought battle and make it to state for a second straight season.
