Girls Basketball: Wildcats State Bound!  Wingers vs. Trojans Tonight...

Goodhue 61 Rushford-Peterson 44-The Goodhue Wildcats downed Rushford-Peterson Thursday night at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center Arena to win the Section 1A title and advance to the girls state basketball tournament for the second straight year.

Goodhue grabbed an early lead and never looked back.  Grace Majerus led the way with 14 points.  Ann Lodermeier added 10 with Courtney Hinsch, Erica Tipke and Laura Watson adding 9 points apiece.  The big story was Goodhue's defense on Jade Pelzl, the Trojans all time scoring leader.  Goodhue held Pelzl to just 4 points.  Kenzie Lind led Rushford-Peterson with 16 points.

Goodhue is 23-7 on the year and are 22-1 after a 2-6 start.  The Wildcats face the Section 2A champion in the state Class A quarterfinals Thursday, March 18 at Williams Arena at 11am with the pre-game show at 10:40am on KWNG 106 with "Action" Jack Colwell.

The Red Wing Wingers and New Prague Trojans clash tonight for the Section 1AAA title tonight at the Rochester Civic Center Arena on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on the web at www.1250kcue.com with the pre-game show at 7:55pm and the tip off at 8:15pm with "Action" Jack Colwell.

"Action" Jack's Outlook: In the movie "Miracle" Kurt Russell portrays 1980 USA Olympic Men's Hockey Team Coach Herb Brooks and says "It's our time!" before their game against the Soviet Union.  Wingers coach Kraig Ulveling is preaching that to his team as they attempt to defeat the Trojans for the first time in over six years tonight.

The Trojans have ended the Wingers season in the section playoffs in each of the last three years including the section final last year.  The Wingers need to slow down New Prague's two big inside players, Maggie Weiers and Hannah Strop, handle the Trojans press and get into their high tempo offense as well.  Red Wing needs to stay close or forge a lead by halftime and keep what should be a huge contingent of Winger fans into the game.

Pepin-Alma 53 Elmwood 50-The Eagles move on to the WIAA Division 4 Regional final Saturday at 1pm against #1seed Eleva-Strum in Durand.
