Amateur Baseball: Red Wing 2 Cannon Falls 0-In a battle of tough lefties, Augie Lindmark outdueled Keith Meyers in a CCVL matchup at the Athletic Field. The Aces scored a run in the bottom of the second inning when Jimmy Bohmbach singled and scored on Brett Gadient's double off the wall in left center field that bounced out of the glove of Bears centerfielder Brad Rheingans. The only other run came in the sixth inning when Bohmbach doubled to left with one out. Jorgen Karlsrud came in to run for Bohmbach and went to third on a passed ball on Bears catcher Taylor Pagel. Gadient's two out single to center scored Karlsrud. Neither team mounted a threat the rest of the way. Augie Lindmark scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out four with no walks to improve his record to 3-0. Dustin La Rue went 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief with Aaron Johnson retiring the two batters he faced for the save. Meyers pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strike outs, no walks and two hit batters. Cory Hedeen pitched two innings of one hit relief for the Bears. The Aces are now 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the CCVL. Cannon Falls is 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the CCVL. The Aces host the Austin Greyhounds Wednesday at 7:30pm in their next game. Other CCVL games: Miesville 19 Northfield 5, Hampton 6 Hastings 4 St. Croix Valley League: Ellsworth 11 St. Croix Falls 1 High School Swimming: Familiar Faces "New" Head Coaches For Wingers Swimming Two familiar names have accepted offers to become the girls and boys head swimming coaches for the Red Wing Wingers. The hires by Wingers athletic director Matt Schultz are expected to become official in the near future. Sue Forsberg, who has been an assistant for the girls and boys program the last three seasons, will become the girls head swim coach. Gene Petersen, who was the girls and boys head coach in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, returns to coach the boys team. Petersen coached the boys team to a third place finish at state in 2009. Jeff Simonson was the Wingers girls and boys head swimming coach this past season but resigned to become the head coach of the Northfield Swim Club. High School Baseball today: Section 1AAA elimination game: Owatonna vs. Hastings 6pm in Red Wing. Winner plays Rochester Mayo Tuesday at 5pm in Red Wing. Section 1A: Wabasha-Kellogg vs. Southland 4:30pm at Hudson Field in Rochester (Winners bracket game) Softball: Zumbrota-Mazeppa vs. Park Center Class AA quarterfinals 9am Thursday at Caswell Park in North Mankato. Track & Field: Red Wing qualifiers are Bryant Blahnik in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, Luke Johnson in the shot put and discus for the boys and Kim Hovey in the shot put and discus for the girls. The Wingers compete in Class AA. In Class A: Lauren Kuklinski of Wabasha-Kelogg is in the 100 hurdles and long jump. 8th grader Emi Trost is in the 3200 meter run. On the boys side, Cannon Falls 4 x 200 meter relay team and Demetre Growette in the 400 meter dash. Cullen Shanrock of Wabasha-Kellogg is in the 3200 meter run. The state meet is June 11th and 12th at Hamline University in St. Paul.
