State Track & Field:

Senior Kim Hovey of Red Wing won the Class AA shot put title Saturday for the second straight year at Hamline University in St. Paul.  Hovey's winning toss was 43 feet even.  Hovey will attend the University of Minnesota this fall and toss the shot put for the Gophers.

On the boys side, junior Luke Johnson was second in the discus behind Farmington's Logan Hussong.  The Wingers Bryant Blahnik was  11th in the 1600 meter run.

8th grader Emi Trost of Cannon Falls was second in the 1600 meter run in Class A competition Saturday.  The Lake City 4 x 100 relay team of 8th grader Brandy White, freshman Taylor Koller, 8th grader Shannon Ting and senior Jennifer Vaith was fourth Saturday.  Lake City freshman Kristine Novak was 12th in the pole vault.

State Girls Golf:

The Red Wing Wingers girls golf team competes in the State Class AA meet Wednesday and Thursday at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.  Katie Kesti, Rachel Oeltgen, Danielle Brooks, Ashley Brooks, Marissa Toivonen. Nikki Pasch and Anna Busch are on the Wingers varsity squad.  The Wingers are seen as the prime contender to four time defending state champ Minnewaska Area.

Lake City has three individuals at state: Annalise Wallerich, Erika Meinke and Abby Gruber.

Amateur Baseball:

Red Wing Aces 7 Northfield Knights 1- Kyle Blahnik's rbi single snapped a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning as the Aces pulled away for the win. Dave Jenson hit a solo home run, his first career Aces home run, in the seventh inning and the Aces added three runs in the eighth and one  in the ninth for the victory.

Andy Gibart allowed one run on four hits in eight innings on the mound for the win.  Brett gadient pitched the ninth inning for Red Wing.

The Aces are 12-4 on the year and 7-1 in the CCVL.

Next game: Prescott at Red Wing Tuesday with the pre-game show at 7:15pm and the first pitch at 7:30pm on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on the web at www.1250kcue.com.   It's also Longhaul Bombers night as Red Wing's Rich "Geno" Buck heads a list of four players who belt tape measure home runs in a slow pitch softball hitting exhibition before the game.  The Longhaul Bombers tour major league ballparks as well and will be at Target Field Wednesday njight before the Twins vs. Rockies game.  There will be lots of prizes and autographs for the kids before the game tomorrow night!

Miesville 1 Hastings 0-The Mudhens Paul Eppen scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning for the only run of the game.  Miesville is 7-0 in the CCVL.

Dundas 13 Randolph 0

Ellswoth 9 Lake City 8-Jeremiah Paulson's bases loaded double in the top of the ninth inning rallied Ellsworth to the win.  Kris Long and Brett Gwaltney had two rbi's each for Lake City.  The Serpents fall to 9-1 on the season.

Bay City 8 Elmwood 5-Justin lance hit a grand slam for Bay City.

American Legion baseball tonight:

Hastings at Red Wing 7:30pm (Red Wing 1-0 on the season)
