Amateur Baseball: Red Wing Aces 3 Eau Claire Cavaliers 1- The Red Wing Aces won their third game in three nights with solid pitching and defense against the Cavaliers Thursday night at Carson Park. The Aces scored all three of their runs in the first inning. Andy Schilling had an RBI single. Aaron Johnson added a fielder's choice grounder to score a run and another run scored on the play when the Cavaliers tried for a doubleplay with the throw getting by the first baseman, allowing Jimmy Bohmbach to score. Augie Lindmark picked up the win, going six innings. Lindmark hit three batters with his big curveball, but allowed just five hits and one run with one walk and four strike outs. Dustin La Rue pitched the final three innings to record the save. The Aces are now 17-6 on the year and host the 13-1 Lake City Serpents tonight at 7:30pm on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on the web at www.1250kcue.com. The pre-game show is at 7:10pm. It's Tom Gwaltney night as the Aces honor Lake City's Tom Gwaltney, the longtime Serpents manager who is battling ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Other games tonight: Cannon Falls at Dundas St. Paul Sport and Spine at Miesville Bay City at Ellsworth High School Sports: Another Class for Wisconsin High School Basketball The WIAA Board of Control approved expanding from four to five classes for basketball at it's summer meeting Thursday. The change means schools with enrollments between 200 and 600 will be split inhalf to create Division 3 and Division 4 with schools below 200 being in Division 5. Ellsworth will play in Division 3 with Pepin-Alma and Plum City Division 5 schools. The WIAA had one state champion through the 1971 season. The two class system was adopted in 1972 and 1973. The WIAA went to three classes from 1974-1990 and the four class system has been in place since 1991.
