Amateur Baseball:

Red Wing 13 Hampton 0 (7 innings)- The Aces crushed the Cardinals Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Field and clinched the #2 spot in the CCVL and section playoffs in the process.

Aces lefty Aaron Johnson had another great day on the mound, tossing a complete game five hitter, striking out six and walking just one. 

The Aces scored three runs in the second inning off Cardinals pitcher Duane Slinde and never looked back.  Chris Gueztlaff had an RBI single and Tyler Goering had a big two out, two run double.  Red Wing added four runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Brett Gadient and RBI singles by Steve Boldt and Dave Jenson.  A run also scored on a Cardinals error.

The Aces added two more runs in the fifth inning  when Kyle Blahnik walked with the bases loaded against the Cardinals second pitcher of the day, Bob Speedling.  Adam Thygesen's sacrafice fly scored another run.  The Aces scored four more in the sixth inning highlighted by Jake Laffey's bases loaded triple.  Augie Lindmark's sacrafice fly brought home Laffey with the final run.

Red Wing pounded out 17 hits led by Tyler Goering's 3-3 day at the plate.  Steve Boldt was 3-4.  Jimmy Bohmbach, Brett Gadient and Dave Jenson added two hits apiece.

The Aces are 24-12 and 10-3 in the CCVL and host Lake City Wednesday at 7:30pm on Tom Gwaltney night on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on the web at www.1250kcue.com.

Miesville 3 Dundas 2- David Olson hit a two run homer in the sixth inning to rally Miesville past Dundas at Memorial Park.  Olson had all three RBI's for Miesville.  Charlie Ruud went the distance but took the loss for Dundas.

Erik Olson pitched the first four innings for Miesville and allowed two runs.  Chris Olean pitched four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win and Luke Rasmussen pitched the ninth inning to record the save.

Miesville is 26-3 overall and 12-0 in the CCVL.  Dundas is 28-8 overall and 8-5 in the CCVL.

Cannon Falls 5 Northfield 4- The Bears scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game including Brad Rheingans game tying single.  Taylor Pagel's two out RBI single in the 10th inning scored Rich Burr with the game winner.

Keith Meyers pitched the final five innings to get the win for Cannon Falls.  The Bears are 17-17 overall and 8-5 in the CCVL.

Lake City 4 Pine Island 2-  Brandon Gosse allowed one run over six innings on the mound to pick up the win for the Serpents.  Brett Gwaltney had a two run single in the fifth inning for Lake City.  Kris Long was 3-3 with a double, scored twice and stole two bases.

Lake City is 23-3 on the season.

VFW Baseball:

Red Wing beat Austin 7-0 and Albert Lea 11-3 Saturday, then routed Austin 7-1 Sunday morning at the Athletic Field to advance in the district playoffs.

In the Sunday game Joel Newmand and Mike Stegora were both 2-3.  Newman had two doubles and three RBI.  Stegora had a triple and a home run.  Dayton Johnson pitched five solid innings to get the win.

Red Wing is now 22-1 and will host the district final four later this week and a win moves them on to the state vfw tournament in Austin.
