Amateur Baseball:

Red Wing 5 Rochester 3- The Aces scored five runs on six hits in the top of the first inning and held on from there for a win over the Royals at Mayo Field in their regular season finale Tuesday night.

RBI singles from Corey Tauer, Steve Boldt and Cory Thorson highlighted the first frame uprising for Red Wing.  Augie Lindmark pitched the first two innings for the Aces and got the win to improve to 7-1.  Lindmark allowed a run on four hits.  Andy Gibart followed with two scoreless innings.  Tyler Goering pitched the fifth inning and allowed one run.  Aaron Johnson pitched a scoreless sixth inning.  Dustin La Rue allowed a run in his two inning stint and Corey Tauer pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save.

The Aces finish the regular season at 29-13.

The Aces host the Dundas Dukes this weekend in the first two games of their best of five Section 1B playoff series. Games Saturday and Sunday start at 8pm with the pre-game shows at 7:45pm on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE and on the web at www.1250kcue.com with "Action" Jack Colwell.

Saturday: Dundas (Todd Mathison) at Red Wing (Josh Thygesen) 

Sunday: Dundas (Charlie Ruud) at Red Wing (Aaron Johnson)

VFW Baseball:

The Red Wing VFW baseball team faces St. Cloud in the first round of the State Tournament at the Riverland Community College Baseball Complex in Austin Thursday at 1:30pm with the pre-game show at 1:15pm on Bluff Country 1250 and on the web at www.1250kcue.com with "Action" Jack Colwell.

If Red Wing wins they move on in the winners bracket and play at 11:30am Friday.  A loss means Red Wing plays in the losers bracket at 7pm Thursday.  The 10 team double elimination tournament also includes New Ulm, Alexandria, St. Paul Ranview (Cretin Derham Hall), Proctor, Ausin, Bemidji and Forest Lake.  The championship game will be Sunday.

The teams will be recognized tonight at a pre tourney banquet at Austin Holiday Inn.  The guest speaker will be University of Minnesota assistant baseball coach Rob Fornasiere.  There will also be a skills competition Thursday and Friday.
