Boys Hockey:

Northfield 3 Red Wing 2- Penalties told the story of the Wingers loss at Northfield Thursday night.

Northfield was 2-6 on the power play while the Wingers never had a power play opportunity in the contest.

Adam Yetzer's power play goal at 10:29 of the first period gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Andrew Scofield's goal at 2:42 of the second period put the Raiders up 2-0. The Wingers quickly responded and tied the game with two goals 51 seconds apart. Marcus Dodge lit the lamp at 3:09 and Ryan Rehder converetde a nice pass from Alex Rezansoff to make it 2-2 at the 4:00 mark.

Red Wing's Anthony Kimmes took an elbowing penalty just 15 seconds into the third period and the Raiders potted the game winner on Adam Yetzer's power play tally ay 1:51 of the period.

The Wingers pressed for the game tying goal the rest of the way but couldn't get the equalizer against Northfield goalie Isaac Tjaden, who had 29 saves. Preston Blaney had 23 saves for Red Wing.

Northfield is 10-7-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in the Missota. Red Wing is 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Missota . Red Wing hosts North St. Paul at 7pm tonight at Prairie Island Arena.

Girls Hockey:

Red Wing 6 Northfield 3- The Wingers beat their Missota rivals with a three goal third period and kept their Missota Conference championship hopes alive.

The Wingers led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Nicole Schammel and Emily Segora. The Raiders rallied to tie the game 3-3 after a wild second period. Annie Pumper scored at 1:21 of the period and then tallied a shorthanded goal at 5:33 to make it 2-2. The Wingers Nicole Schammel scored at 6:27 of the period on the same power play to put the Wingers up 3-2 but Northfield got a power play chance and Sarah Behr's goal at 7:24 of the period made it 3-3.

The Wingers dominated the third period and 8th grader Maddy Hardyman's power play goal at 7:26 proved to be the game winner. Paige Haley added an insurance goal at 13:15 and added an empty net goal with 23 seconds left.

Red Wing outshot Northfield 20-6 in the third period and 52-28 for the game. Lisa Nibbe had 25 saves for the Wingers.

Red Wing is 15-5-1 on the season and 9-1 in the Missota Conference. The Wingers, ranked #8 in the State in Class A, play at #6 Blake Saturday at 3pm. The Wingers return home for a showdown with Chaska/Chanhassen next Tuesday at 7pm in a game that will decide the Missota Conference champion. Chaska/Chan is 9-0-1 in the Missota and beat Red Wing 5-3 at Chaska in their first meeting back on January 3rd.

Boys Basketball:

Boyceville 64 Plum City 59- Chase Luebker scored 22 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter but the Blue Devils comeback effort fell short Thursday night.

Girls Basketball:

Pepin-Alma 60 Eleva-Strum 53- Ali Murray's 24 points led the Eagles to the win. P-A is 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Dairyland Small Conference.

Boys Swimming & Diving:

Red Wing beat Shakopee Thursday night at the Twin Bluff Middle School Pool. The Wingers are 6-0 on the season and host their invite Saturday.

The Wingers try to upend the Missota Conference leading Storm on the road tonight.

Girls Basketball:

Chanhassen (14-3, 5-0 Missota) at Red Wing (14-4, 4-2 Missota) 7:30pm- It's another big conference foe for the Wingers as Chanhassen is ranked #6 in the State Class AAAA rankings.
